Dear Student/ Parent, 01/01/2010

Welcome Back
I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and I wish you a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year for 2010. I am sure it will be a great year for our school. This is an important year for us as the Beccels club celebrates 35 years. We will commemorate this in September. If you have any ideas to make this special then please let me know.
Just so you know Loddon opened in 2002and has been running for 8 years and Cambridge in 2003 and has run for 7 years.
Kuk Sool Ted News
Our very own Ted was busy in December, helping Father Christmas and is looking forward to the New Year and exciting plans for 2010. More news later.

New Members
Anyone who recommends a friend who joins in January, February or March will get £20.00 cash. That’s right CASH in hand, so get recruiting now.... 5 referrals = £100 Cash!

New Year Plans

Success for life
I will be introducing a Success for Life package in to the junior curriculum over the next few weeks. This will be used to promote positive skills in day to day life, as well as in class so our students can really succeed. The opening subject will be Positive Attitude. Martial Arts training serves as a vehicle to instil values and skills that children can put to use outside of the Martial Arts School. Skills including: self-confidence, self-control, and positive thinking, listening skills, respect and good manners. The ability to focus attention, perseverance and courage. The core of martial arts stresses the vital importance of a healthy mind and body necessary to lead a productive life.

Parent Helpers
I would like to ask any of the parents who sit and watch class week in week out if they would like to get a little more involved and become a parent helper. This will mean helping out with activities and games, helping with control and supporting the children with positive praise. Don’t worry you will not be asked to teach or coach but you might get a special t-shirt!! If you are interested and don’t mind having a CRB check them please volunteer.

Membership Fees
All membership and Insurance fees will be due in at the end of January. As last year, you will all be notified by letter.

Grading test
The next testing will be held on Sunday 31st January for Beccles and Loddon and on Tuesday 2nd February in Cambridge. You will be able to pay grading fees and membership fees together. All cheques should be made payable to Kuk Sool Won of Beccles.

Sparring and Tournament training
Sparring will take place every Thursday at Beccles and every other Tuesday and Wednesday at Loddon and Cambridge. This will enable lots of practice for those who want it throughout 2010.

We will aim to take as many students as possible to the European tournament in King’s Lynn in May this year. I will be talking to local businesses to try and get some sponsorship to help with the cost. If you can help with this or know someone who can, please let me know. There will be a special tournament medal for all students who enter, so......get practicing!!!!

Beccles Duck Race
The Duck Race is in trouble! It needs people to come forward to form a committee to run the event. If this doesn’t happen then the town may well lose this fun day out. I have been approached by the main event coordinator who needs your help to ensure the Duck Race stays. We need four of five people to take on tasks and give time. If you can help or know someone that might be interested then please talk to me as soon as possible.

Black Belt Training Day
The next Black Belt training day will be Sunday 21st February 10 till 2pm. This will cover form, weapons, teaching skills, in-depth technique application and a great work out!! This will cost £20.00 per head, please make arrangements to attend.

We have a fab bright red marquee for our demos this year. If anybody knows of an event this year where we can perform a demo? Let me know so we can fill our events diary.

Black Belt Meeting will be held on Friday Jan 8th 7pm Kings Head Hotel, Beccles

Swimming at Bungay.
Did you know that at Bungay Swimming pool you can get a free swimming card for your child? All you need to do is fill in a form for free swimming. You will need a passport size picture and a parent to fill in form you can swim free straight away.

Fun Day with Kuk Sool
We will hold a Kuk Sool Swim fun day at the Bungay pool on Saturday 23rd Jan at 3pm till 4.30pm. Please come in full Kuk Sool uniform and make sure you apply for a free swim card on the day if not before, if not the cost is £1.80 per swim. Parents you will be responsible for your child at the swimming pool. You don’t have to swim but you must stay at the pool, you can watch drink coffee and relax!!

Mantis’ win!
Congratulations to JKN James Lewis and the entire mantis team, on winning the most points up to Christmas. Well done to all of you Tigers and Dragons too!! Let’s keep bringing in all your achievements so we can share them and be proud.

Finally
Our curriculum provides the direction; our instructors provide the push; and our classes provide fun and a great workout, for a healthy way of life. Martial Arts will give you the energy and stamina to succeed throughout your life and the New Year.
